The recent Wales Carp Masters qualifying match held at Celtic Lakes Resort was a great success. Prior to the matches being held on the newly established complex, it had been an unknown quantity, but in the four matches that have taken place so far, the venue has displayed a seemingly endless ability to produce such impressive form.
With the weather being far less than ideal - with torrential rain and cold northerly winds - the competitors could have easily been forgiven for thinking that catch-rates might suffer, however, that was far from the way it went over the weekend.
John Carney of Celtic Lakes resort was understandably delighted as his venue had raised the benchmark yet again. With the winning pair, Simon O'Brian and Tim Rees banking an impressive 609lb 15oz, yet again the 40-hour Wales carp match fishing record was broken.
Finishing in third place, with an impressive enough catch of 270lb 12oz, were Jason Callaghan and Steve Blow, and in second place were Gary Wadey and Leigh Wells with 373lb 10oz. The eventual winners romped home, right from the start, to clinch a well deserved place in the September final.
