One of the UK's most exciting new coarse and carp fisheries has been developed just 4 miles from Lampeter, West Wales, by life long Angler John Carney.
Set amongst stunning scenery, the 75 acre site at Celtic Lakes Resort was previously a mix of forestry and boggy farm land and was originally bought as a retreat where John Carney, the owner, could get away from his business interests in The Midlands and indulge his other favourite hobby of horse riding with his wife Tracey.
It soon became apparent that as a well as being used for horse riding, the site could also be developed into a major fishery and its opening in August 2005 marked the culmination of three years of planning, consultation and hard work digging out the lakes, planting the banks, creating waterfalls between each lake and stocking with fish.

Now Celtic Lakes Resort offers superb fishing on 6 waters of varying sizes, all heavily stocked with carp to 40lb+ and catfish to 80lb as well as a mix of coarse fish including tench, roach, rudd, perch and bream. Night fishing is allowed and Celtic Lakes welcome touring caravans, tents and bivvies.
For those of you who know John, you will not be surprised to learn that the work at Celtic Lakes Resort does not stop there. In December 2006, the main specimen lake was stocked with over 70 carp weighing between 15lb and 20lb and 2007 will see the arrival of specimen carp to well over 40lb in addition to 350 carp between 2lb and 10lb of which 100 weigh over 10lbs.
In addition to the big carp, Celtic Lakes has also been granted a licence to stock catfish and the first of these arrived early in 2007. Weighing between 20lb and 60lb, these fish will help elevate Celtic Lakes to Wales' premier catfish venue and one of the UK's finest big fish waters. Further regular stockings will continue throughout 2008

The aim at Celtic Lakes Resort is that 70% of the visitors will be non-anglers which will ensure the waters do not become too overcrowded.
"As far as the fishing goes at Celtic Lakes, I am trying to link with serious anglers who want serious sport with accommodation which will appeal to those who want to enjoy comfort in delightful surroundings and will feel happy to bring their wives and families or organise a break with friends which combines specimen hunting or pleasure angling with sophisticated accommodation and facilities"
The fishing fees at Celtic Lakes have been set at a level which reflects the quality of the venue and the sport on offer and which will ensure that secluded angling for a small number of anglers is maintained at all times.
